The Trust
Established in 2003, the aims of the Historic Transport Museum Trust are the collection, display, preservation and restoration of transport related vehicles, machinery, artifacts and memorabilia reflecting the history of transport in the Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast regions.

Welcome to the Transport Museum
Situated in the beautiful grounds of Higgins Park, The Historic Transport Museum is an ideal place for a day out. It houses a growing collection of historic and restored vehicles, machinery, artifacts and memorabilia collected from around the Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast regions.
Overseas visitors, families, truck fanatics and special interest groups will all find something of interest in the collection, and its setting provides a beautiful location for a picnic.
Nearby in the same park setting are the Pigeon Valley Steam Museum, the HQ of the Rover Car Owners' Club, the Tractor and Stationary Engines Club, a vintage sawmill and the Rural Life Museum.
The museum is open every Sunday, from 10am to 3:30pm, and may also be opened for groups and special requests with reasonable notice. Entry is by gold coin donation.
Where to find us
From Nelson, follow SH6 south to the township of Wakefield (approx. 30 minutes). We are located 2kms up Pigeon Valley Road from Wakefield (see map).

This panel is an opportunity to keep you up to date, and later it is intended to provide a service for restorer and owners of historic vehicles to source spare parts for their restorations and repairs.

Always popular, the annual truck weekend is on the 14th and 15th of February, 2009. The full park will be open with major transport demonstrations and exhibits. Children’s rides, entertainment and food stalls. The theatre will be screening and a great time for families and enthusiasts is assured.
Entry: $5 for adults, children free.
        
The “Pioneer Years” is the Museum's first film.
        
In DVD form, this 20 minute disc covers the growth of the Transport from early settlement, 1840 to 1940. Well received as an important contribution to national history, it is also ideal for educational needs. Available in both PAL and NTSC format, it is $22.50 incl. GST.
